11-12-2008

Professional Communications, Inc, is pleased to announced the publication of the new, second edition of The Vaccine Handbook (“The Purple Book”) by Gary Marshall, MD.

The Vaccine Handbook is targeted to practicing pediatricians, family physicians, internists, obstetrician/gynecologists, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician’s assistants, clinic staff, students and residents, unlike Vaccines, the definitive textbook by Plotkin, Orenstein, and Offit, which is geared towards academicians, and unlike books in the popular press, which are for parents and patients. Unlike the Red Book, which is about infectious diseases, The Vaccine Handbook is only about vaccines and the diseases they prevent. It expands on the Red Book by including information on the fundamentals of vaccine immunology, development, licensure, policy making, the vaccine safety net and risk-benefit communication. It addresses current public concerns about vaccines, adult vaccination, travel vaccines, billing, legal obligations, and office organization and logistics. It differs from the Pink Book as well in the extent to which these topics are covered.

Dr. Gary Marshall is Professor of Pediatrics and Chief of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Louisville School of Medicine.
