PCI announces the publication of the premier edition of Ankylosing Spondylitis—Axial Spondyloarthritis by Muhammad Asim Khan, MD.
Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and related spondyloarthropathies (SpA) are, as a group, as common as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Their presenting clinical manifestations are wide-ranging and heterogeneous, and the patients are thus seen by a variety of medical and surgical health care professionals. Unfortunately, most patients are either never diagnosed or inadequately treated, and the mean delay in diagnosis of AS currently ranges from 5 to 10 years.
With the availability of newer, better methods of musculoskeletal imaging, such as MRI, and highly effective treatments, there is an urgent need to improve early diagnosis and reduce any inappropriate delay in obtaining effective treatment. Earlier diagnosis and effective management can mitigate the severity of the disease, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of these patients.
This handbook provides evidence-based, practical information on all aspects of ankylosing spondylitis, with emphasis on clinical manifestations, pointers for early diagnosis, and comprehensive coverage of current treatment options, including the latest biologic therapies.
Muhammad Asim Khan, MD is Professor Emeritus of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University and an internationally known authority on Ankylosing Spondylitis.
